The following is a list of people that have left the official Church of Scientology organization and have spoken out publicly against it. Although some of them still believe in the validity of the core precepts and practice them outside of the Church of Scientology, all of them have denounced the legitimacy of the organization itself. As part of Project Chanology this list began in June 2009 [1]. The names are listed alphabetically by last name. As of the last count, there are 3271 names on this list.

The purpose of this list is to give courage to others who are still in to finally leave, or those who have already left to speak out. Also, perhaps those that are still in may recognize a name they may have known before, especially senior and important members, and are unaware they have left. The extensiveness of this list demonstrates that there is a significant problem with organized Scientology, and counters all the claims by their Office of Special Affairs (OSA) in the media that so-called "disgruntled ex-members" or "defrocked apostates" are only a "small group", a "tiny clique of expelled former staffers" or a "handful" in number.

Names with a 💔 in their entry also spoke out about being affected by Scientology's Disconnection Policy. Tapping or clicking on any broken hearts takes you to the specific list of Disconnection stories.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please verify all names before adding! This means finding a form of media where a person has spoken out against the Church of Scientology (CoS), such as news interviews, books, articles, forums, or personal websites. See a glossary of abbreviations found in this list These are real people, and if there are incorrect results in google, it can affect them directly. Also, if available, please provide information about the number of years in, position in Scientology/levels achieved, and location. See the chart for where Clear/OT levels are on the "Bridge to Total Freedom"

This is a work in progress. If anyone can help disprove any of these names, or fill in blanks (i.e. how long they were in, their position, location, etc), your help would be much appreciated. When put all together, it should act as a compelling preponderance of evidence against the legitimacy of organized Scientology.

To those who are still in: realize that all of these people have left, and you can too. There are thousands more who left, and have yet to come forward to tell their story, and there are also hundreds more who spoke out who did not want their names known. We hope that the courage of those named here empowers more people to come forward with their stories of abuse to ultimately prevent such abuses from ever taking place again.

Add/Update Your Name[]

UPDATES:

If your name appears on the Big List of Former Members above and needs corrections or additional details applied, please give us feedback in one of the following locations:

ADDITIONS:

If you wish to add your name to the Big List of Former Members, please follow these steps:

1. Find links online to proof you were a member of the Church of Scientology, usually mentions of your name in Scientology magazines, but you can also take photos of any certificates you received, IAS membership card, etc. and upload those to where you can then provide the URL. If you have none of that evidence (in case you threw them all out) please provide the name of anyone already on this list that knew you while in and can vouch to that.

2. i) Gather any relevant URLs for online documentation of where you have spoken out in media outlets or social networks, OR

ii) If online documentation is lacking for proof of speaking out, consider using one or more of the following outlets under your REAL NAME so that your voice can be counted as part of the ongoing exodus from the Church of Scientology:

  • Post a statement on your favorite forum or blog, and/or
  • Record and upload a video statement to Youtube or similar media sharing site

3. Combine one or more URLs gathered from the steps above with the other misc. details needed to make a proper entry (full name, years involved, plus highest auditing and/or training level achieved, active locations, etc.)
4. Submit all of your collected information by posting a comment on one of the related threads indexed above under UPDATES.
